"The applicant withdrew the application very last minute. I think it was like 3:30 this afternoon," the supervisor said, adding, "So, there'll be no vote. I have a short statement and that's really it's not even a formal meeting." The supervisor characterized the withdrawal as received too late to allow for timely consideration and public notice.
The supervisor said the town of Fallsburg did not support the annexation. "As supervisor, I believe it was incumbent upon the applicant to demonstrate that the proposed annexation would provide a clear and tangible benefit to the town of Fallsburg. Based on the information that they presented, I did not find that to be the case," the supervisor said.
Officials had held earlier discussions with the developer and with the village of Woodridge about a smaller annexation that some participants thought might include forever-wild areas and potential parkland. "We were all under the understanding that the proposal would be very different ... when they were going to reduce what they were trying to annex down to just one parcel," the supervisor said, and added that there was at one point "consensus on both of our boards that it would be something we consider," but the final formal proposal was different.
Because the withdrawal came at the last minute, the supervisor said there was not adequate time for the boards to consider the application or to provide required notice. "So basically the proposal is dead. There is no annexation," the supervisor said. The supervisor also said they expected their board would have opposed the measure.
The supervisor asked for comments or questions; none were offered. Brief informal remarks followed about refreshments and the short duration of the session, and the gathering concluded with no formal vote or further action scheduled.
