Tipton, Iowa — The Cedar County Board of Supervisors voted June 4 to approve an administrative recount of ballots in the Cass/Center/Iowa/Rochester precinct from the June 2, 2026 primary.
Chairperson Jon Bell read a letter from Auditor Nicki Welch asking the board to authorize the recount to “correct the discrepancy and ensure an accurate accounting of all ballots cast in the precinct,” and Supervisor Barnhart moved to approve the request. Supervisor Bixler seconded the motion, which passed with all present voting aye; Supervisor Kaufmann was recorded as absent.
The special session began at 8:00 a.m.; Deputy Auditor Hamdorf recorded minutes. Earlier in the meeting Supervisor Barnhart moved and Supervisor Gaul seconded approval of the agenda; that motion also passed with all present voting aye and Supervisor Kaufmann absent.
After approving the recount, the board approved a motion by Supervisor Barnhart, seconded by Supervisor Bixler, to adjourn the special session at 8:05 a.m. and reconvene on June 9, 2026. That motion carried with the same attendance and voting pattern.
Minutes were noted as reported by Deputy Auditor Hamdorf. The transcript records no public comments during the session.
