Board hears first reading of large policy packet; new personal communication device policy to align with state law July 1

Dr. Harshburger presented NEOLA revision packet 38 number two as a first reading at the June 8 meeting. The packet comprises 44 revised policies meant to align district policy with recent local, state and federal legal changes.
Board members and administrators noted the extensive review effort and the role of administrative teams in vetting policy language. Several board members singled out Policy 5136 (personal communication device) because of public interest; Miss Lawrence pointed out that the revised language reflects a state law that takes effect July 1 and that the revised policy and accompanying student handbook language will be posted on the LT website and communicated to families and staff.
Dr. Harshburger indicated this is a first reading and that the policy committee and administration will continue to refine and communicate implementation plans to schools and families ahead of the effective date.
No formal vote was taken on the packet at this meeting (first reading). Staff said communications and rollout plans will follow.
