Board hears Blue Ribbon Phase 2 facilities update; GMP expected for McKenzie and asbestos removed at Craig

Dr. Nesbbit presented photographic updates for Blue Ribbon Phase 2 projects across the district and gave a status report on major construction and renovation work.
Highlights included: work at Craig Academy (main lobby, PD room and boardroom renovations and classroom additions nearing completion), playground demolition and classroom refreshes at multiple elementary sites, Sunnyside roofing, and final sheet-metal work at Winding Ridge. Dr. Nesbbit said the district is "pushing hard" to have expansions and additions ready for the 2026–27 school year.
In response to a board question about past asbestos concerns at Craig, Dr. Nesbbit said the district brought in experts and "abated that and removed all of it at Craig," explaining the district tends to remove materials during renovation rather than encapsulate them.
Presenters reiterated that construction managers and architects are meeting frequently and that the district expects to have a guaranteed maximum price for the primary McKenzie work by June 24, after which bidding and contract finalization will proceed. The board was also told the McKenzie budget includes a significant FF&E allocation to cover high-cost CTE equipment.
The board will receive more photos and a further update at the June 22 meeting.
