The Ulster County Laws, Rules & Government Services Committee on June 11 approved a late resolution authorizing the chair to execute an agreement with the Kingston Housing Authority for $700,000 in previously awarded Round 2 Housing Action Fund dollars.
The funding will support rehabilitation and construction across three Kingston properties totaling about 238 units: Wiltwick Gardens (approximately 60 units on ~4.2 acres) and Colonial Gardens and Penn Court (approximately 112 units combined on ~7.56 acres, listed as 32 and 80 units respectively). The committee was told the executive office received notice of the project closing after the resolution deadline, so the item was submitted late to meet timing requirements.
Deputy Executive Amenta explained contracts were ready but the closing notice arrived after the packet deadline; the county requested committee approval because the closing would occur before the next legislative session. Committee members moved to adopt the resolution and it passed unanimously.
The resolution authorizes the chair to execute an agreement consistent with previous planning and awards from the Housing Action Fund; committee discussion stressed the need to move quickly to preserve the awarded funds and complete the closing.
Committee members asked about timing and next steps; the executive’s office said it would circulate contract paperwork and that the department of planning will coordinate implementation details.
The committee adopted the resolution and moved on to other business.
