Director Gerber summarizes NSBA federal priorities including full IDEA funding and opposition to vouchers

Director Gerber told the Othello School District board on June 8 that the National School Boards Association (NSBA) has released its federal advocacy priorities for the coming session.
She listed the items NSBA plans to push: full funding and modernization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); efforts to extend, expand and retain the educator workforce; strengthened investments in Title I and career and technical education (CTE); promotion of digital access, digital literacy and cybersecurity; prioritizing student health, wellness and safety; and organized opposition to school vouchers.
Gerber said many of NSBA’s priorities align with the district’s current work on special education and CTE funding and noted the association has a multi‑page document with paragraphs explaining each priority. "If anyone's interested, this document ... is a good read," she said.
The board received the report as information; no formal board action was recorded on the priorities during the meeting.
