A written letter from Eric Clark was read aloud at the June 10 Yellow Springs Exempted Village school board meeting asking the district to remove gender fields from documents sent to families. The letter said the family has updated legal identifications — “compliant state ID, legal name change, and a federal passport with the correct gender” — and described repeated embarrassment caused when school materials show an incorrect gender for the child. The letter concluded: “I request that you alter your document sent to all the students and all the families so no mention of gender is present.”
Board members thanked the sender and asked whether reading the communication aloud was within protocol before Christie read the statement for the record. The board did not take any immediate action on the request during the meeting.
Separately, the PTO provided a brief update: a street fair parking fundraiser will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the PTO plans to march in the June 27 Pride parade with lineup at 10 a.m.; and school supply kits for grades K–6 will be available for preorder next week. Board members discussed how the board might participate in the Pride parade and who would be available to attend.
The board did not vote on changes to school forms at this meeting; any formal policy or handbook edits would require future consideration and formal action.
