Bolton Veterans Commission finalizes Memorial Day Parade plans and approves March minutes

The Bolton Veterans Commission on May 21 approved its March 19 meeting minutes and finalized plans for the town’s Memorial Day Parade, scheduling lineup at 9:15 a.m. and a 10:00 a.m. step-off.

The approval of the March minutes came after a motion by John Hambrook, seconded by Carole Franco; the minutes record that the motion “passes unanimously,” though individual votes were not listed. The commission recorded attendance for the meeting and continued with event planning.

Commissioners said this year’s parade will follow last year’s format and will include the State Police and Color Guard, local officials, the high school band and chorus, classic cars, the fire department, scouts and local sports teams. The ceremony lineup assigns a greeting to Pam Sawyer, an opening prayer by Pastor Brandon, the national anthem by the High School Chorus, and the Pledge of Allegiance to the scouts.

The commission reviewed weather contingency plans and agreed that in the event of rain activities will relocate to the firehouse. Organizers said event details will be shared on social media and across town.

During the meeting commissioners also reflected on a May 19 presentation by performer Kevin Johnson, describing the program as “powerful” and energetic. The minutes note the event was not recorded because of copyright considerations and that the commission expressed interest in hosting Johnson again in September for his Professor Jim portrayal at either the senior center or the public library.
