As an interim idea, members proposed a box outside at the transfer station during good weather months and asked the First Selectman to apply for a grant to purchase a permanent all-weather box. Preliminary research discussed at the meeting estimated the box would cost about $700 to $1,000 and last roughly 10 years. A family contact offered to build an indoor cabinet-style box as a secondary drop-off location, and members discussed possible contacts for flag-retirement ceremonies.
No final funding decision was made at the meeting; the commission identified next steps that include a grant request and further outreach to local groups to host retirement ceremonies.
