Geneseo council hears updates on streets, sewer, water tower and lead-line work

City Engineer Lauren gave the council a multi-item infrastructure update covering street, sewer and bridge projects.

Lauren reported that North State Street Phase 2 water services are complete in the work area and that road work sequencing will follow storm-sewer completion; she said the project remains on schedule assuming normal weather. The Ford Road sanitary sewer project has been submitted to IEPA and staff expect follow-up questions on project funding; the project is being financed in part through TIF funds as indicated in packet materials.

On the pedestrian bridge, Lauren said the city submitted a hydraulic report to DNR and is awaiting response; no final decision from DNR was available at the meeting. Staff scheduled a preconstruction meeting this week for the Chicago Street lift station and said bid documents will follow after IEPA approvals.

Utility staff updated the council on the North Water Tower exterior work, reporting an expected completion around June 20–21 and noting that staff will begin Chicago Street lead-line replacements after tower completion. Well 33 source-water protection plan work and additional samples were reported as submitted to support the operating permit application.

Council members asked questions about schedule, budget and maintenance; staff noted a recent heavy rain event in a neighboring county delayed some work and that contractors are coordinating to resume when practicable. No formal action was taken; staff will return with permitting results and contract documents as projects progress.
