At the meeting the council recognized community volunteers and youth by awarding Onwards & Upwards scholarships: Molly Benshen (Michigan State, data science) and Michael Verga (University of Michigan, mechanical engineering) each received $2,000.
Appointments: The council appointed David Hunt as a full member of the Zoning Board of Appeals (term through Dec. 31, 2028) and Mary Joe Hurst as an alternate on the Beautification Committee; Hunt was sworn in during the meeting.
Community garden: Carmine reported completion of six raised beds and explained an availability/assignment mechanism (a flip sign that shows "available" or "planted"). Parks and Recreation will develop a policy on bed assignment — village residents likely to be given priority for a period before opening to nonresidents — and bring a recommendation back to council.
Next steps: Parks staff to refine assignment and fee procedures and return with a formal policy; community members interested in beds have begun inquiries.
