Pottawattamie County adopts FY2026–27 budget and sets elected-official pay

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on April 28 adopted the county’s fiscal year 2026–27 budget following a public hearing and approved a separate schedule of pay for elected officials.
The Board approved Resolution No. 30-2026 adopting the FY2026–27 budget after a public hearing at which members of the public and staff were heard. The same meeting included adoption of Resolution No. 27-2026, which fixed salaries for elected officials: County Attorney $178,463; County Auditor $108,859; County Recorder $108,859; County Treasurer $108,859; County Sheriff $170,783; and Supervisors $54,676. The salary actions were approved by roll call vote.
Board members said the budget process included an earlier amendment to the FY2025–26 budget to account for departmental overages and one-time expenses; the Board approved transfers and appropriations tied to that amendment in late April.
Why it matters: The adopted budget funds county operations for the coming fiscal year, sets the tax levy framework and funds capital projects and public safety priorities. The elected-official pay action aligns with the Board’s compensation policy debated during public sessions earlier in the spring.
