The Westport Climate Resilience Committee on Tuesday finalized plans to staff a booth at Westport River Days on Saturday, June 20, where members will help residents enroll in Code Red, demonstrate UMass Dartmouth data tools and collect local reports of flooding and power loss.
Dia, who organized the outreach plans, said the event runs from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and that the committee should staff the booth in half‑day shifts. “I’ve met with the Watershed Alliance and also with Nefelli and her two interns about this,” Dia said, and asked volunteers to sign up so the booth has “at least three people at the booth at all times.”
Committee members agreed to offer multiple ways for residents to engage: iPads to sign into Code Red, QR codes and index cards for later signups, and a set of maps where visitors can mark locations they have experienced flooding, frequent power outages or extreme heat. Jeff said UMass Dartmouth will supply a data flyer with dashboards and QR codes to help people interpret the information.
The committee also discussed logistics including Wi‑Fi access, tables and easels and the need to circulate draft materials to volunteers before the event. Jeff and Dia said they will circulate final drafts of handouts and posters and asked members to confirm shifts and supplies by early next week.
