Aransas Pass ISD approves behavioral intervention specialist role to support elementary campuses

Aransas Pass ISD trustees voted to add a district behavioral intervention specialist position to the district compensation plan, a role intended to support elementary campuses and provide districtwide training and parent engagement.

Superintendent Mr. Bennett presented a model job description and said the specialist would be primarily housed at elementary campuses (with Faulk identified as a likely site) but would provide districtwide support as needs arise. The position is meant to give teachers and administrators additional strategies and interventions for behavioral supports so classroom instruction is less disrupted.

Trustees discussed the scope and timing of the role and clarified that the board's vote adds the position title; specific funding will be addressed through the upcoming budget workshops. One trustee summarized the operational goal: adding the specialist would "help teachers teach" by addressing behavioral obstacles to learning.

The motion to approve the new behavioral intervention specialist was made by Mr. Mullenex and seconded by Mr. Rector; the board voted unanimously in favor.

Next steps: administration will finalize the job description, incorporate the role into the compensation plan and pursue funding allocations during the preliminary budget workshop and fiscal planning process.
