A committee member nominated Frida Solís to serve a one‑year term on the Richmond Rising youth committee; Mayeli seconded the nomination and the committee approved it by a show of hands. The facilitator said Frida will be officially added at the next meeting with a nameplate.
Frida Solís, introduced at the meeting as a member of the second youth cohort representing the Triángulo area, said she wants to help her community and bring information about projects and events to neighbors. “Pienso que es importante informar a la comunidad sobre los proyectos y los eventos que se están realizando y también ayudar a la comunidad para que expresen algunas preocupaciones,” Solís said.
During the meeting six youth fellows individually introduced themselves and described learning goals — most cited communication skills and interest in participating in projects such as Bosque del Barrio’s tree‑planting and the e‑bike lending program. The committee held a brief vote to fill the remaining youth seat; the motion was seconded and the facilitator declared the motion carried by unanimous assent.
Why it matters: the youth representative is a voting participant in the committee process and youth fellows are positioned to support outreach and project implementation across neighborhood initiatives.
What’s next: Frida will join the committee formally at the next meeting; staff will continue youth recruitment and training sessions over the summer.
