Atascadero wins multiple regional design and public‑works awards for downtown El Camino project

Atascadero officials accepted multiple regional awards on June 11 recognizing the downtown El Camino infrastructure enhancement project.
Public works staff described awards from the American Public Works Association (Central Coast chapter) and the American Society of Civil Engineers for categories including transportation project of the year, outstanding roadway and highway project, outstanding community improvement project, sustainability, and outstanding construction. A representative of the American Planning Association presented APA’s urban design Award of Excellence and said, “Please join me in congratulating the city of Atascadero.”
Council members and staff credited the project team for delivering the work on time and on budget and noted the awards validate outreach and design efforts. The council and staff said they look forward to phase two of the project, including decorative arches at either end of the downtown enhancement.
The council paused to receive plaques and photographs before moving on to routine business.
