Board approves district-owned family-engagement curriculum at modest cost

The Rialto Unified Board approved a contract on June 10 to buy and adapt the "High Expectations" family-engagement curriculum and facilitator materials so the district can deliver parent modules and site-level training without ongoing vendor licensing.
Joseph Williams and Dr. Jose Montes presented the item, explaining the plansix parent modules, facilitator guides, and five professional-development modules for community-school specialistsand the goal of scaling family engagement across sites with district-owned materials. "We buy it, we own it, we run it," Williams said, describing the districts intent to reduce long-term licensing costs and build internal capacity.
The board voted to approve the agreement (effective May 21, 2026 through June 30, 2027) at a cost not to exceed $68,350, to be paid from the general fund and specified community schools/grant funds. The contract is structured as a one-year implementation with materials and facilitator packages to be used by site teams.
