Trustees asked for comparator salary data to set a posting range for the superintendent position and agreed to a modest advertising budget to broaden outreach.
HCE and Superintendent Dara will provide comparator pay data from similar districts to inform the board’s decision on the posting range. Consultants suggested a typical span for a district the size of Belmont-Redwood Shores might leave room of roughly $35,000–$50,000 between the low and the high end of the posted range, subject to trustee refinement when the criteria are finalized.
The board approved a targeted $1,464 advertising proposal to post the vacancy to specialized and affinity organizations to broaden the candidate pool. Trustees also discussed residency expectations: most favored a Bay Area presence or willingness to relocate rather than a strict in-district residency requirement. Consultants noted relocation assistance is commonly offered to finalists and suggested boards budget modest relocation stipends if needed; background checks for finalists were estimated at about $175 per candidate.
