The Wythe County Board of Supervisors adopted key fiscal and administrative measures at its June 9 meeting, including the FY27 county and school budgets, a consolidated county code and a county employee bonus ordinance.
County staff told supervisors the state General Assembly had approved bonus funding for constitutional officers and other employee categories but that the state budget overall remained unresolved. To keep operations on schedule, staff recommended adopting the county’s FY27 budget now and amending appropriations later if the state budget changes. The board voted to adopt the FY27 county and school budgets and the CY26 tax levy and explicitly noted the action did not include tax increases.
Separately, staff presented a reorganized county code and recommended placing fees in a separate fee schedule to allow annual fee updates without ordinance changes. The board adopted the county code and fee schedule to be effective July 1 to permit printing and online publication. The board also approved an employee bonus ordinance consistent with state budget actions.
Votes at the meeting included approvals of invoices (totaling approximately $6 million, including $4.5 million to retire interim financing), minutes from May 26, grant appropriations and several year‑end budget amendments. County staff said they will process first‑quarter appropriations at the June 30 meeting and amend the adopted budget if the state finalizes its budget later.
What’s next: Staff will publish the reorganized code online, distribute hard copies to relevant offices and move forward with required appropriations and reporting.
