The Deptford Township Board of Education approved a broad consent agenda and several individual motions at its May 12, 2026 regular meeting in the Deptford Middle School cafeteria.
Personnel and human resources: The board approved retirements, resignations and terminations, revised leaves of absence and numerous hires and long‑term substitute appointments for the 2025–2027 school years. Notable personnel items included the retirements of Nicholas Sheairs and Susan Favinger, effective July 1, 2026, and authorization for the superintendent to hire and make internal transfers needed for the 2026–2027 school year. Annual tenure acknowledgments and contracts across certificated, clerical, transportation, facilities and Spartan Care staff were also authorized. The personnel consent agenda passed as presented; two subitems (7j and 7l) were recorded as carried in a later roll call with one abstention (Mr. McCurdy) where noted.
Finance and contracts: The board authorized the district’s 2026–2027 tax levy payment schedule and renewed Nutri‑Serve as the food services management company for 2026–2027. The agenda lists Nutri‑Serve’s total operating cost for the FSMC at $1,908,977.87, a management fee of $99,961.25 payable in ten installments, and a guaranteed return of $50,000 to the School Food Authority. The board approved an amendment to the ESEA consolidated grant carryover allocations (Title I: $129,607; Title II: $23,193; Title III Immigrant: $2,848; Title IV: $10,141). Additional approvals included retroactive rental of two Yellow Buses for $10,800 (May 4–June 18, 2026); annual service for Halo devices (transportation radios) at $14,340; an agreement with Walsworth for 2026–2027 yearbooks at $22,497; and a list of curriculum, technology and maintenance contracts on file in the Business Office (examples noted in the agenda include Bluum $60,231.93 and a DELL Cyber Vault solution $135,502.24). The board approved payments across district funds totaling $3,736,727.41.

Board members also asked for township follow‑up about crosswalk signal installations near district facilities.
Closed session and formal outcomes: After a brief public portion with no public comments, the board entered closed session citing N.J.S.A. 10:4‑12 for residency/legal matters and for HIB review. Upon return to public session the board adopted the superintendent’s recommendation on the residency hearing (motion carried, roll call 7‑0) and voted to process payments in satisfaction of the arbitrator’s decision CASE#AR2023‑237 (motion carried, 7‑0). The meeting adjourned at 8:54 p.m.
