Planning commission grants conditional use permit for vehicle diagnostics and calibration business at 525 North Geneva Road

The Lindon Planning Commission voted June 9 to grant a conditional use permit to John Duran to operate an auto‑servicing business at 525 North Geneva Road specializing in vehicle diagnostics, programming and calibration services conducted entirely indoors. Staff told the commission that in the mixed commercial zone an auto‑servicing business requires a conditional use permit and that the applicant meets the applicable standards pending the conditions the commission attached.

During questioning commissioners clarified scope. Staff and the applicant said the proposed use focuses on electronics, key programming and calibrations — not heavy mechanical work such as engine rebuilds. The applicant confirmed: "It's more like electronic... he works with keys and calibration and more like electronics and for new cars." The commission asked whether the business would occupy a bay or the entire building; the applicant said he would occupy a single unit/bay within a subdivided building.

The motion to approve imposed standard conditions intended to limit off‑site impacts: vehicles may not be stored outdoors for longer than 72 hours unless waiting on delivery of parts; vehicle parts storage requirements and limits on parking/driveway use were specified; if the business conducts fluid changes the applicant must submit a fluid waste storage and management plan; and the business must comply with the mixed commercial special provisions in section 17.5.120 of the Lindon City Code and all items in the staff report.

The commission approved the conditional use permit by voice vote and welcomed the new business to Lindon.
