Resident complaint prompts Lower Alsace supervisors to direct solicitor to pursue zoning enforcement on Cornell Street

At its Oct. 10 meeting the Lower Alsace Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to direct the township Solicitor to pursue legal action after a resident renewed complaints about commercial vehicles parked on Cornell Street.
Resident Sheila Shuman told the Board she had observed multiple transportation vehicles she believes are in violation of the township's Home Occupation guidance and said she would provide photographs and videos documenting the activity. Solicitor Kelsey Frankowski and Township Manager Don Pottiger said the Solicitor and the Township Zoning Official had issued Notices of Violation to the tenants and the landlord to notify them that a zoning variance is required to use a residential property for business purposes; the Township Manager reported that, since the letter was issued, township staff had documented one vehicle in the area.
Following the exchange, Supervisor Todd Weikel moved and Supervisor John Theodossiou seconded a motion directing the Solicitor to pursue legal action to enforce the zoning ordinance; the motion passed with all supervisors voting yes.
Why it matters
The direction to the Solicitor moves the matter from code enforcement notices to legal enforcement steps, which could include citation, hearings or further legal filings if compliance is not achieved.
