School board moves prom date, schedules joint training in August

The Freeman School District 33‑1 board approved a change to the 2026–27 district calendar after staff and the calendar committee identified a conflict between the originally scheduled prom date and the SkillsUSA state competition. The superintendent said April 9 would be a preferable alternative and that the calendar committee indicated agreement.
Chris moved to approve the calendar amendment; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.
Board members also discussed holding a joint administrative and board training. The proposed two‑day agenda would include DISC personality assessments and sessions for administrators and for the board; staff said the instructor, Tom Hoster, had proposed a plan now in the meeting packet. Members preferred an August 10 training at 4 p.m. with July 13 held as a backup depending on instructor availability and participant schedules. The board asked staff to finalize logistics and confirm availability.
No further calendar changes were made at the meeting.
