Martinez Unified presents proposed 2026—7 LCAP, keeps focus on equity and intervention

At the June 8 board meeting the Martinez Unified School District presented its proposed Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for 2026—7, outlining priorities, actions and proposed expenditures.

Director Amy Espinosa said the LCAP is a student-centered, data-driven three-year plan with an emphasis on eliminating opportunity gaps and holding the district accountable to state and local metrics. The proposed LCAP includes roughly $5 million in LCAP-linked expenditures drawn from the general fund; action areas highlighted by staff include access to instructional materials (including technology), professional development, college- and career-readiness supports, credit recovery and multilingual-learner supports.

Espinosa reviewed adjustments from the prior plan: increases in course access and credit recovery funding, modest decreases in some parent-engagement line items, and continued investment in counseling supports (noted at about $434,000 in the presentation).

Trustees asked for clarifying detail on credit-recovery costs, how action steps with zero-dollar allocations will be monitored, and the timeline for advisory committee work. Espinosa said credit recovery relies on software licenses and teacher oversight during and outside the school year, and confirmed FastBridge will continue as the district math screener even as curriculum changes are implemented.

The board will hold the public hearing on the LCAP and consider the plan for approval at the June 22 meeting; the plan will then be submitted to Contra Costa County Office of Education for review.
