Park Committee raises safety concerns, discusses amenities and Community Day

At the May 11 meeting, Penn Township Park Committee members discussed park operations and upcoming events, raising concerns about nighttime vehicle activity and amenities.
Several members reported there are frequently many vehicles in the park during nighttime hours and asked whether police patrol the area regularly. Committee members suggested posting park hours — dawn to dusk — as a deterrent to late-night activity; the minutes do not record a formal request to the police or a specific enforcement plan.
Committee member Scott Gumto said the horseshoe pits are not being used and are located near the new driveway; he showed pictures of concrete cornhole sets and the committee agreed to explore replacing the pits with cornhole. The minutes do not record a motion or vote on replacing the pits, only that members will look into the option further.
The committee also announced Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.; anyone who would like to help was asked to contact Nicole at the Township Office. Before adjourning, members and Supervisor Matt Salina walked to the ellipse to take measurements for potential bench and picnic table locations.
