Solicitor Jamie Ottaviano told the board he had prepared a legal notice for the special meeting listing solicitation of bids for the project as the subject, and that the notice had been properly advertised in the Pottstown Mercury on Sept. 5. Commissioner Michael McGroarty moved to authorize MG Architects, Ltd. to solicit bids; Commissioner Earl E. Swavely seconded the motion, which passed 4-0.
The board’s vote followed brief remarks from commissioners marking the milestone. Commissioner McGroarty said the project "has been on going for at least eight or nine years" and thanked President Raymond W. Lopez and Manager Edward C. Wagner for their leadership and effort. Commissioner William Keohane said he appreciated the work to date and was "excited to see the progress moving forward." Commissioner Swavely echoed those remarks. Manager Edward C. Wagner added that many people at Community Day had asked about the new building and shared excitement about the project.
President Lopez opened the meeting at 8:00 a.m., recited the Pledge of Allegiance, noted the session was being recorded and invited public comment; no visitors offered comments. Solicitor Ottaviano said he had no additional comments. Commissioner Keohane later moved to adjourn; Commissioner McGroarty seconded and the meeting adjourned at 8:04 a.m. The board scheduled its next meeting for Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lower Pottsgrove Township Building.
Next steps for the project are the solicitation and receipt of bids under the authorization voters approved; the record shows the legal notice was published on Sept. 5, and the board will proceed with bid solicitation through MG Architects as authorized.
