Architectural Review Committee approves Cape Cod Chokers sign for 47 Main Street

The Orleans Architectural Review Committee on June 11 unanimously approved a projecting, double‑faced storefront sign for Cape Cod Chokers at 47 Main Street.

The applicant told the committee the sign uses an abstract Cape Cod artwork she has used as a logo for about 10 years and that the store will not use lighting on the sign. “I’m an artist. It’s an abstract artwork of Cape Cod that I did about 10 years ago,” the applicant said, describing the design’s history and use on stickers and apparel. Committee members confirmed the sign will project over the sidewalk, is double‑faced and that the smaller round sign noted in the application is temporary.

Committee members complimented the submission for its detailed color samples and bracket specification. After brief questions about placement and the temporary round sign, a member moved to approve the signage “as proposed,” a second was heard and the motion passed by voice vote with all in favor.

The chair noted a procedural step: the committee did not have the applicant’s official signed approval sheet on hand. The applicant was instructed to visit the building department to sign the approval sheet so the decision can be entered into the town record.

The approval applies only to the sign as submitted and discussed at the hearing; committee members did not add conditions beyond the standard filing/signature procedure. The committee then returned to other business.

The applicant and committee declined to discuss any outstanding enforcement or code questions during the public hearing; applicants are expected to follow building‑department procedures to finalize permits.
