Weirton council approves traffic changes, demolition contracts and budget revisions

Weirton City Council unanimously approved a series of traffic- and property-related measures and budget adjustments at its May 11 meeting. The actions included a second reading to add a crosswalk on Weir Avenue at South 11th Street, amendments to residential disability parking, the establishment of a new stop sign at Beaumont Drive and action to accept a private road from Form Energy into the municipal street system pending later transfer under state code.
The council also approved a $145,000 grant and redevelopment agreement with the Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle for 3429 Main Street and authorized a $165,000 professional services contract with Environmental Planning & Design to update the city’s comprehensive plan and related planning documents. Council approved revisions to both the 2025–2026 General Fund and Coal Severance Fund budgets in roll-call votes that recorded all seven members voting yes.
Two demolition contracts with Pulice Demolition were authorized for 405 Baker Street ($6,929.50) and 3019 West Street ($14,550.00). The council approved three reappointments to the Housing Authority and had planned to appoint a new member to the Weirton Area Water Board, but the nominee, Lawrence Wright, asked to withdraw and Mayor Dean M. Harris withdrew the resolution.
Motions were moved and recorded by individual councilmembers when noted: Councilman Rick Stead moved the second reading of Ordinance No. 2275 (crosswalk/stop bars) and led other traffic-related motions; Councilman Timothy Connell moved the parking-space rescission; Councilman Anthony Rocchio moved the new residential disability space; Councilwoman Brittany Holloway moved the Beaumont Drive stop sign. The Finance Committee report and the overall financial summary were accepted by vote.
All formal votes recorded in the meeting minutes were unanimous (7–0) where tallies are listed. No substantive debate or amendments to the motions were recorded in the minutes. The council adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
