City staff told the council the donation secures the parcel for future public safety use but cautioned that the ‘approximately three acres’ language is intentional: the final acreage could be two, three or four acres depending on survey results and the eventual building footprint and topography. Staff said if either party backs out of the donation the property would revert to the original owner per the proposed agreement’s language.
Council members praised the step as proactive public‑safety planning. One speaker who identified himself in the record as Mickey commended the council and noted that Fire Chief Pennington and ISO analysis pointed to a strong need for a north‑side station to serve the city’s growth.
Council approved the ordinance accepting the donation and authorized the mayor and city administrator to execute the land‑donation agreement; the clerk recorded the roll call in favor of the motion.
Staff said the next steps include completing surveys, determining the final building footprint, and advancing design and funding planning for the station.
