Kanab council adopts tentative FY2026–27 budget; no tax increase proposed

Kanab City Council on May 12 adopted the tentative FY2026–27 budget after a presentation from City Manager Kyler Ludwig.
City Manager Kyler Ludwig told the council the tentative budget prioritizes core services, public safety, infrastructure needs and employee retention and includes no proposed tax increase. Councilmember Corry moved to approve Resolution 5-1-26 R acknowledging receipt of and adopting the tentative budget; Councilmember Banks seconded and the resolution passed. Councilmember Heaton was absent for the vote.
The council's action acknowledged receipt of the tentative budget; city staff said final budget adoption is anticipated at the June 23, 2026 council meeting, when any year-end adjustments or budget amendments can be considered following additional review and audit adjustments.
The minutes show the council approved the resolution without recorded dissent. The third-quarter financial report presented later in the meeting noted staff will continue monitoring revenues and expenditures and expects year-end adjustments prior to the final audit.
