Chase County approves emergency radio upgrades, authorizes fiber and new repeater

Chase County Commissioners on May 26 approved purchases and installation work intended to improve countywide emergency radio communications.
Emergency Manager Duane Dreiling told commissioners that to allow all county repeaters to communicate reliably, fiber internet needs to be run to the Lamar tower and possibly to the school, routers must be installed at each tower (Lamar, Wauneta, Imperial and Chase County Schools), and an additional repeater should be placed at the school.
Commissioner Jacci Brown moved to allow Emergency Manager Dreiling to purchase a repeater for the school, obtain routers for each tower, arrange fiber installation where needed and secure monthly internet service to the towers. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Billie Muehlenkamp and approved unanimously.
County officials said these changes should alleviate current problems with radio communication between departments; the authorization allows Dreiling to begin procurement and contract work as required.
