The Laconia City Council voted to extend social-district hours to 9:00 p.m. for concert nights on Canal Street and discussed making the later closing time permanent.
Mayor Bours explained the extension was intended to avoid confusion during events and several councilors supported the change. “I think a 9:00 time makes much more sense,” Councelor Hilliff said, citing local business practices. The motion to extend hours passed on a unanimous roll call.
Councilors noted an extra hour entails incremental police coverage costs. A police representative said the added hour represents an additional hour of coverage, though the city currently funds a downtown foot presence paid from FY26 funds. Councilor Susi and others suggested reviewing sticker pricing (the cup-sticker program used by businesses) to help offset police costs; the council agreed to review results at approximately a 60–90 day mark.
The council also appointed Councelor Eric Hoffman as liaison to the downtown TIF advisory board and Councelor Conan to the We TIF board in the same meeting.
