Council schedules public hearing on $65,000 impact-fee request for Elm Street School bus-loop drainage

The Laconia City Council moved a first reading of Resolution 2026-06 seeking authorization to use $65,000 in impact-fee revenues to address drainage issues at the Elm Street School bus loop and scheduled a public hearing on June 22, 2026.
Diane Clary, business administrator for the Laconia School District, told the council the district initially budgeted a $32,000 placeholder but estimates have since risen. “When we got the estimate for what it was going to cost, it was higher obviously at 65,000. ... So we're looking at $97,000 now for the bus loop,” Clary said, explaining that the district and Nate at DPW plan to combine efforts and add a catch basin.
Councilors asked whether the $32,000 placeholder would be used in addition to the requested $65,000; Clary said the district intends to use impact fees for the $65,000 and repurpose the $32,000 placeholder for other building needs that arise during the year. Council noted there is roughly $265,000 in the related impact-fee fund.
The motion for the first reading and to schedule the public hearing passed on a roll-call vote with all councilors voting yes. The public hearing will allow residents and school officials to provide input before any final appropriation.
