Nederland — Council voted to reclassify a vacant parks maintenance role into a lead parks and recreation maintenance position intended to provide field leadership and improve scheduling, accountability and response to work orders across park facilities.
Parks staff explained the city currently has a three-person crew with no designated lead and that the new role would supervise mowing, coordinate facility maintenance and allow the department to reprioritize work without adding net headcount. The presenting staff member said the suggested pay at the 108 scale represents roughly a $2-per-hour increase over current pay for the position.
Council members asked for comparisons to other jurisdictions, requested clearer pay-gap information between current staff and the proposed lead, and discussed restroom maintenance and vandalism prevention at parks. Staff said the role would also support bringing more mowing work in-house over time and flagged a slope-mower as a possible equipment purchase for next year.
The motion to reclassify the position passed on a roll-call vote.
