Miami-Yoder board approves new elementary principal, routine hires and multiple policy readings

The Miami-Yoder Joint District No. 60 Board of Education on Feb. 11 approved several routine actions, including employment moves and policy readings, and approved a 5th-grade overnight field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
The board voted unanimously to approve consent items that included financial reports (General Fund, Bond Fund, Lunch Fund, Activity Fund and Class Fund) and new hires effective Feb. 3, 2026. By motion, the board approved the recommendation to hire Carrie Craig as elementary principal for the 2026–27 school year; the motion passed with four ayes (Ronny Burr, Daniel Carneal, Sharron Darby and Jon Hogeboom).
At the meeting the board also approved a package of first-reading policies covering civil-rights complaint procedures for school nutrition programs, communicable-disease protocols, medical-marijuana administration rules for qualified students, first-aid and emergency-care policies, student mental-health screening and child-protection reporting procedures. The board separately approved a set of second-reading policies, as amended, which included student-restraint reporting, educational alternatives for expelled students, student health services and immunization rules, and added JFBB-R Inter District Choice/Open Enrollment to the second-reading list. All policy motions recorded unanimous support.
Other approvals included minutes for the Jan. 14, 2026 board meeting and work session, and a 5th-grade overnight field trip to Denver scheduled for April 22–23, 2026; those motions passed on unanimous votes.
The motions to approve the agenda and to adopt the consent package were moved and seconded by board members on the record, and roll-call tallies are reflected in the board minutes. Where abstentions were recorded on employment business, the minutes indicate the vote (for one resignation motion Mr. Burr abstained).
The board ended the regular business before moving to executive session to address a superintendent evaluation and related negotiations. The meeting adjourned at 9:19 p.m.
