The Mendon Town Board voted to add Brown & Brown as one of the town’s health-insurance brokers effective June 1, 2026. Board members were told that current plans for active employees will remain unchanged for the 2026 plan year; the broker appointment applies primarily to retiree and Medicare-eligible participant options.
Under the motion, retirees and Medicare-eligible participants may elect to transition to cost-saving options offered through Brown & Brown or remain on the current plans through December 31, 2026. Board members discussed what would happen if only one or two retirees remained on the original plan; staff explained plan availability depends on enrollment thresholds and that fewer than two remaining participants could cause that plan option to close.
The board approved the appointment and directed staff to ensure retirees receive information about options. Members emphasized annual plan renewal processes and noted employees select plans from broker-offered options while the board selects brokers.
