Avon council approves sign update, accepts road bid and adopts rezoning for gymnastics building

The Avon Town Council approved a package of routine motions at its June 11 meeting, including procurement awards, a corrected abatement compliance filing and a final reading zoning change.
Welcome signs: Council awarded the quote to Freeman Signs for $15,600 to update 12 welcome signs to reflect the town’s new logo. Staff said the work is well under the budgeted $54,210. A motion to award the quote was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Road improvements: Public Works recommended accepting a low bid from ENB Paving for County Road 525 East improvements (ENB bid reported as $44,375). The project is intended to improve left‑turn movements at the US 36/525 East intersections and follows recent changes to drive access at a nearby business. Council approved the bid award after a motion and second.
Abatement CF‑1 correction: Staff presented a corrected CF‑1 compliance form for a logistics development after discovering duplicated values in the previously filed form. The petitioner acknowledged the error and submitted corrected figures; the council approved the revised CF‑1 for 2026 reporting.
Real estate closing: Council approved Resolution 2026‑18 to confirm authority to close on a remnant parcel originally negotiated in 2017 related to the White Lick Creek Trail project. Staff said the seller is honoring the original appraisal value and the resolution was requested by the title company to finalize the transaction.
Rezoning: On final reading the council adopted Ordinance 2026‑09 (ZA‑2601) to rezone 2.27 acres at 8170 Kingston Street from split I2/C2 to C2 to allow a Rights Gymnastics facility and tenant space. Planning staff said the plan commission recommended approval by a 5‑0 vote; the council approved the ordinance on final reading.
Votes and procedure: Motions were moved and seconded as recorded in the minutes; the clerk conducted roll calls and recorded results orally during the meeting. Staff said contracts and awards will move forward according to procurement and contracting processes.
Council also confirmed its next meeting date (June 25) and discussed the possibility of an executive session beforehand on personnel or RFP matters.
