Eastern Greene Schools board adopts foundational strategic statements; moves to phase two

The Eastern Greene Schools board voted on June 8 to adopt foundational strategic statements that will guide the district’s next planning phase.

A presenter summarized phase one of the district’s strategic planning effort, saying the board and administrative team held three public work sessions on Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Dec. 22 and then solicited stakeholder input via a survey distributed around Feb. 16. The presenter reported that over 526 people opened the survey, about 330 people responded to some questions and 234 completed it; roughly 94–96% of respondents affirmed the proposed core beliefs, vision and mission statements. The district engaged consultant Dr. Brad Balch from Indiana State to assist with the process.

The presenter outlined the district’s foundational statements, including an acronym of core beliefs and a vision centered on ensuring “every Thunderbird will soar with purpose, integrity and success.” The presenter said phase two will set goals, objectives and key performance indicators tied to those foundational statements and will include input from administrators and select community members.

“We’re going to develop goals, objectives and key performance indicators,” the presenter said, noting the district will launch the new plan in the fall and provide quarterly internal updates.

After discussion the board moved to approve the foundational statements; the motion passed. Trustees said they valued the collaborative process and emphasized the next step will be specific, measurable actions to hold the district accountable to the statements it adopted.
