Mile High Conservation District approves minutes and financial report; hears project updates

The Mile High Conservation District board convened Feb. 24, 2025, in the BLDC Building Conference Room and approved the previous meeting’s minutes and the district’s financial report. Chair Jack Kambich called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.
Supervisor Cam Balentine moved to approve the minutes as prepared; Supervisor Don Ueland seconded and the motion carried. Later in the meeting, Don Ueland moved to approve the financial report after Secretary/Treasurer John Moodry reviewed recent bills and invoices; Supervisor Jack Joyce seconded and the motion carried. Moodry told the board he had moved funds from the County Account into the district’s regular checking account.
District Administrator Kris Hugulet reviewed packet materials and reimbursement details for services. Under business items the board noted there were no 310 applications submitted. On watershed projects, staff reported no change in status for the Blacktail Creek riparian restoration planning project and for Racetrack Aquatics project development; a draft task order and budget for the Browns Gulch project have been sent to the Natural Resource Damage Program (NRDP) and await further update.
Under new business, Moodry updated the board about outreach from Rayelynn Brandl of Montana Tech. Brandl did not attend the meeting; Moodry said her project could complement an outdoor classroom event and that he would try to secure program information or have her attend a future meeting. Moodry also provided a brief legislative-session update, noting bills introduced that could affect conservation districts but without listing specific bill numbers in the meeting record.
The board reviewed written updates submitted from the Montana Association of Conservation Districts (MACD), local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC). No reports were submitted by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks (DFW&P) gave no report at this meeting. Correspondence from MACD and DNRC was copied to supervisors for consideration.
