Pembroke board unanimously hires highway equipment operator; approves payments, calls Water District hearing

The Pembroke Town Board on June 27 approved several routine actions, including the hiring of a Motor Equipment Operator and authorization to pay standard operating expenses.
On Resolution #47 the board approved Superintendent Scott Turner’s recommendation to hire Glenn Eck as a Motor Equipment Operator in the Highway Department effective July 15, 2024. Turner told the board he received four applications, interviewed candidates with department staff and said Eck "has the qualifications and experience necessary" and "is already in the county drug testing program." The motion was made by Councilwoman Kathleen Manne and seconded by Councilman Edward G. Arnold Jr.; the vote was 4-0 in favor.
The board also approved Resolution #48 to pay Abstract #12, covering routine operating expenses within the town’s 2024 budgets. Supervisor Thomas Schneider moved the payment authorization, seconded by Councilman Arnold; the motion carried unanimously.
Councilwoman Deborah Conti asked whether S&S Septic has obtained a required Special Use Permit and requested the Zoning Department follow up so the business corrects permitting and complies with the same rules as other local businesses. Councilwoman Manne said she will review auditor suggestions and speak with the bookkeeper about recommendations the auditor made.
The meeting ended shortly after the board adopted Resolution #49, an order calling a public hearing on the establishment of Water District No. 5 (see separate item). On motion of Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilwoman Manne, the board adjourned at 7:04 P.M.
What this means: the hire fills an open highway position and the board completed routine fiscal approvals; the Water District order moves the district-formation process to a public hearing stage.
