Lewisville council approves social media policy update, with two dissenting votes

The Lewisville Town Council on June 11 approved Resolution 2026-024, adopting an update to the town's social media policy after a period of debate over a provision that would require council members to include a disclaimer on their personal pages noting that their views do not represent the town.
Council discussion focused on item 13 of the proposed policy packet. One council member said they would not sign a policy that required a disclaimer on personal pages; another said the policy was acceptable apart from item 13. Town Attorney Al Andrews had reviewed proposed changes in advance of the meeting.
After a motion and second, council approved the resolution by vote reported as 5–2; the two recorded no votes were Council Member Wilder and another council member. The policy update will be implemented by town staff, who will coordinate with the town attorney on any guidance or training the council requests.
The vote followed earlier briefing-session discussion and public working sessions; council members said they intend to continue reviewing governance and communication policies as needed.
