The Cordova City School District board presented Superintendent Alex Russen with a certificate and a gift in recognition of 11 years of service, thanking him for leadership during the pandemic and for developing staff and pursuing alternative revenue sources.
Board members said Russen’s tenure included work on staff development, grant revenue and partnerships that helped the district’s finances. At least one speaker noted Cordova High School’s placement in state rankings as an example of progress during Russen’s time.
Administrators and trustees described long hours and the range of duties a superintendent manages in a small district, from operations to community relations. The board acknowledged Russen’s role in negotiating partnerships — including recent facility work coordinated with a contractor identified as NVE and support from the National Guard on summer maintenance projects.
Russen offered brief closing remarks about his move to Cordova more than a decade ago and expressed gratitude for staff and community interactions during his tenure. The board scheduled a public gathering and a farewell reception the following week where colleagues plan to celebrate his service.
The board also covered routine business during the meeting, including reports on facilities, food-service distribution and year-end financial matters, and then moved on to new-business motions and policy items.
