Simsbury Board approves referendum question, sets Nov. 3 vote on revised charter

The Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted June 8 to prepare and submit proposed charter amendments for voter consideration and set a referendum for Nov. 3, 2026.
Selectman Kevin Beal moved to place the following question on the ballot: "Shall the Charter of the Township of the Town of Simsbury be amended as proposed by the Simsbury Charter Revision Commission to take effect December 7, 2026, as approved by the Simsbury Board of Selectmen?" Deputy First Selectman Steve Antonio seconded the motion; all members voted in favor.
The Board read and approved a resolution referencing Section 1108 of the Simsbury Town Charter and Chapter 99 of the Connecticut General Statutes, noted the charter revision commission filed its final report with the Town Clerk on April 6, 2026, and directed that the Town Clerk prepare explanatory text for review by the Town Attorney prior to publication as required by state law. The resolution sets polling hours for the referendum from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town’s regular polling places.
Next steps: the Town Clerk will prepare the explanatory text and the town will publish the legal notice in accordance with statutory requirements. The board indicated the amended charter would take effect on Dec. 7, 2026 if approved by voters.
