Simsbury Board approves tax-credit application for Sunshine Wheels to buy accessible vehicle

The Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted June 8 to approve the town’s sole 2026 Connecticut Neighborhood Assistance Act tax-credit application from New Horizons, Inc., which operates as Sunshine Wheels.
Deputy Town Manager Tom Fitzgerald told the board the application is an annual submission and that Sunshine Wheels is seeking assistance to purchase a new wheelchair-accessible vehicle. Selectman Diana Yeisley moved to approve the application and to authorize Town Manager Marc Nelson to submit the application; she also moved to designate Fitzgerald as the municipal liaison. Deputy First Selectman Steve Antonio seconded the motion; all members voted in favor.
Fitzgerald told the board that notices about the application had been posted on the town website. During the earlier public hearing, resident Susan Masino said the program had helped The Grange in the past and complained her organization had not received notice this year.
The board’s approval directs the town to submit certified copies to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services on or before the July 1 deadline. No dollar amounts for the requested credit were specified in the meeting record.
Next steps: the town manager’s office will file the application and Fitzgerald will serve as municipal liaison for follow-up with the state.
