The Plan Commission on June 10 recommended approval of a conditional use permit (CUP) for Little Genius Bilingual Learning Center to operate a group daycare at 400 Progress Drive.
Genesis Vobos, one of the proposed owner‑operators, said Little Genius operates a licensed bilingual program in Madison serving 35 families and proposes capacity for 70–80 children, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with Spanish/English programming and meal services. The building is currently occupied by Creative Kids Daycare, which will close at the end of the week; Little Genius intends to continue child‑care services at the location under its own license.
Commissioners asked about property condition and whether the applicants planned immediate repairs. Ken Yan, the prospective purchaser and a broker, said his family is pursuing insurance quotes and will address repair items identified by insurers or by the closing process. Staff recommended approval of the CUP with the usual conditions; after brief discussion a motion to recommend approval passed on a voice vote.
Staff will place the CUP approval in the file and ensure the applicant meets any building, licensing and insurer conditions before final operations commence.
