Board members discussed plans June 10 to develop a combined baseball, softball and soccer complex at Ranchos Elementary using funds district staff said had previously been earmarked but not spent on fields.
A presenter identified on the record as Mr. Hedera described a partnership with Taos Youth Soccer and said staff had located previously appropriated funds that can be used for the project rather than taking money from current operating budgets. He said mechanical issues with irrigation had contributed to a dry field but that the irrigation system is now repaired; the district intends to assume landscaping responsibility for Ranchos Elementary to prevent recurrence and will present an artist's or architectural rendering in July.
Mr. Hedera noted the district and Taos Youth Soccer hope the Ranchos site will serve as a hub for youth baseball and soccer practice and competition, pointing out currently there are limited fields available in Taos for youth leagues. No formal procurement or contract award occurred at the meeting; staff will return with a project update and design materials for board review.
