Board approves NSBA policy advisories on employee-assistance exams and public-records language

The Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education voted unanimously on June 10 to adopt two New Mexico Schoolboard Association policy advisories: 273 (employee assistance/fitness-for-duty examiner language) and 274 (clarifications to public-records language required on the district website).
Dr. William Royale, director of human resources, told the board Policy Advisory 273 "expands the type of medical provider who may conduct an examination" from a licensed physician to a board-approved licensed health care provider when the district has objective evidence of an employee's fitness-for-duty concern, including mental or behavioral health risks. On Advisory 274 he said the changes clarify compliance with the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act and noted the district already posts required materials online.
Superintendent Dr. Antonio Leighton Jr. recommended approval. Board member Koncha moved to approve both advisories and Vice President Spray seconded. The board called the roll and voted yes: Koncha, King, Secretary (Chahill/Trill), Vice President Spray and President Flores (5-0). Dr. Royale said the district will notify the association and ensure website language is updated to reflect Advisory 274.
The board recorded no abstentions or no votes. The vote was taken on the public record and will be reported to the New Mexico Schoolboard Association for their records.
