Parks staff report splash-pad service calls, new cameras after vandalism; pickleball court to be closed for repairs
Summary
Parks staff member Cliff Hawks reported six service calls to the splash pad recently, plans to reorient and add cameras after vandalism, and a plan to close a pickleball court for a day to apply a multi-coat repair before a tournament; members also discussed shade-canopy quotes amid a 10% departmental budget cut directive.

Parks staff member Cliff Hawks told the meeting that the splash pad is operational but has required repeated maintenance: ‘‘We— the splash pad is up and running with continual issues. We— had to make six service calls this week,’’ he said. Staff said they will reorient two existing cameras and add a new camera after recent vandalism in the pavilion area.
Members raised recurring complaints about late-night litter at the pickleball courts. Cliff described a construction sequencing issue at one court where the posts were installed after paving, causing concrete to chip at the post bases and creating a slip hazard. He said he ordered a thick protective paint/coating and plans to close the court for application and drying; the work may take a full day and was intended to be completed before a tournament scheduled for the 19th.
On capital improvements, members discussed shade-canopy options. A materials-only quote for a structure similar to the ADA park installation was $3,200; installed cost was estimated in discussion at $5,000–$6,000 per structure. Cliff and other members noted that departmental leaders have been asked to find 10% budget cuts, reducing the chance of city-funded installation this fiscal year and pushing reliance onto fundraising or grants.
Cliff also reviewed routine grounds work: seasonal flowers and hanging baskets installed with Chamber funding, yardage-marker and valve-label installations for the irrigation system, and a memorial bench installed on hole 18 at the golf course.
No formal votes were taken on repairs or canopy funding; staff will proceed with repairs and coordinate public notices as needed.
