Jake reports memberships up to 126; junior golf clinic set and on-course disc-golf baskets removed

Presenter Jake reported that memberships at the municipal golf course have risen to 126 this season, up from a final 105 last year. He said the facility hosts North Miami High School home matches and that those events generate spectator revenue for the course and pro shop.

Jake announced a junior golf clinic scheduled for July 6–8 for children ages 5–14, divided into age groups, with instruction the first two mornings and supervised on-course play the third day. He said last year’s sponsor, Harvey Hinkle Myers, is on board again to support the clinic with snacks and shirts.

On programming and equipment, Jake said a family from Peru (the Murphy family) secured a grant for three sunscreen-dispensing stations and chose the course as one installation site; one dispenser is now mounted in the pro shop. He also explained the cart-sponsorship program: ‘‘For one car it’s $500,’’ which includes three decals per cart and serves as a visible running billboard for sponsors.

Jake addressed on-course disc golf, saying the course previously hosted 18 baskets but staff removed those baskets and relocated disc-golf play to other park areas. ‘‘We removed all 18 baskets from the golf course. So, now it’s just golf on our golf course, and disc golf is in the park,’’ he said, describing safety concerns where disc golfers and traditional golfers had blind spots.

The meeting accepted the minutes as presented before reports were given; a motion to accept was made and seconded and the roll call recorded 'yes' votes from Paul, Ray, Green and Ellis.

The next parks meeting is scheduled for July 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
