Leadville — The Leadville Historic Preservation Commission set a residential preservation tax‑credit workshop for Sept. 10 after a scheduling conflict removed the originally proposed Sept. 24 date. Staff emphasized focusing on residential applicants to allow more one‑on‑one assistance from History Colorado and recommended making the event accessible by including language on promotional materials that accommodations are available.
Commissioners discussed costs of on‑site interpretation and possible partnerships to reduce expense. Staff suggested contacting Full Circle and C4 to identify bilingual volunteers who could attend without a large fee, and agreed to reserve a paid interpreter as a backup if necessary. The commission also discussed listing an accommodations statement on flyers so the organizers could avoid paying for an interpreter unless requested.
Separately, staff reported that a walking‑tour project is nearing a draft contract for city review. The proposed arrangement would allow the commission to use the partner’s copyrighted tour content with limited edits while retaining the ability to add additional photos or site details; staff said the city’s legal team must review any contract and that if the city signs the contract the city council may need to authorize it by resolution.
Joey (a local contact identified during the discussion) agreed to help with publicity; staff said the commission will review any final contract and the item will appear on a future HPC agenda for action if required.
The commission also discussed outreach and that the tax‑credit workshop could be structured to prioritize residential questions and timelines, since History Colorado advised that a large group turnout favors residents-only focus for efficiency.
Staff will follow up with History Colorado, outreach partners and city legal to finalize logistics and publicity.
